Art in Kitchen

I have been looking for affordable, unique art for the kitchen. I am not sure if I'll do a gallery wall style or put one shelf and art above. These kitchens are my inspiration.

Kitchen Range Hood!

So, we ended up painting the stainless steel hood black! I love how it turned out! Remember last time I talked about the kitchen I mentioned really wanting to paint it? It just looks like it was always meant to be there. I am in love!! We used this Rustoleum primer and this Rustoleum paint. I still plan to paint the door and the French doors black but we've decided to not stencil the floor. We are going to rent a floor sander and refinish the kitchen and dining room floors. I am so excited!  Don took down the wallpaper border in the dining room yesterday and I plan to put the first coat of paint on the walls sometime this week. After that, we will refinish the floor! I need to decide on lighting and soon!  Here is a pic of the kitchen range hood.

Progress in Family Room

Our family room has been liveable for awhile now. We hooked up the tv a few months back and took our furniture out of storage (I bought two Pottery Barn Seabury Sofas and a chair for $600!). It was such a good price although the fabric is faded in a few places, it is extremely comfortable and great for tv watching!  We had the wallpaper removed, skim coated the walls and installed shiplap on the fireplace. The walls are Valspar's Whisper Softly (same color as the bathroom) and the fireplace is painted Everglade Deck (same as the shiplap in the bathroom). I am not very adventurous with paint ;)  I painted the brick and the brass surround with black paint, along with the bricks on the front of the fireplace.

Here is where we started

 Painted fireplace and new lighting

and a few pictures of how it looks today (I am still planning on putting the piano next to the fireplace once we get the rest of the downstairs finished and I have not unpacked any accessories or art) so it's pretty plain

Bathroom Plans

Thought I'd share some of the design boards I made for the two bathrooms in the house.  We have the powder room that is right off of the living room. I already painted the room Everglade Deck (same color that is in my bathroom upstairs and on the fireplace. This plan has changed a lot since I first made the moodboard for it right after we bought the house. We have the penny tile, the mirror, light fixture and toilet. I bought a vanity but I have changed my mind and really love this lighter color.
This is the moodbard for the 2nd bathroom that is in the back entryway. This bathroom has a bath and shower.

Kitchen floor

Our kitchen floor is hardwood but it is in terrible shape so I am going to stencil it! I chose the Jewel Tile Stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils and it is on its way - can't wait to see it in person!! I've been in love with the patterned tile that I've been seeing all over and Cutting Edge Stencils has a similar look.

Tonight I went to Lowes and picked out the floor paint (Valspar Floor and Porch paint in white and black). I am so excited to start the project. My plan is to lay vinyl tile the same size as the stencil (18x18) and then paint the vinyl tile so that it looks more like real tile.  Here are a couple of my inspiration pictures and the mood board I created with what I hope mine will look like!

Here is what my kitchen currently looks like (we've made a TON of progress but still so much more to do)!!

and here is the moodboard with the floor, painting the door black and open shelving - we will see how it goes!!

Living room on a budget!

I thought I'd do a post and show how I put together a living room on a  budget! I think a room can be put together pretty nicely for around $2000! I found the linen English roll arm sofa on Craigslist (it had a link to Marketsquarehome where you can search for used furniture (I had never heard of the website soo I was pretty excited to find it!!).  The total for all of this came to $2,140!! I used the art I bought from Goodwill and the rug I found on Ebay (I just used $300 because that is close to what I was paying for similar rugs from that seller).  I also excluded the window blinds but you can find similar ones at Home Depot or Lowes for around $30-$40.

Kitchen and Dining room plans

so, I have a dilemma in the kitchen.  We bought a stainless steel range hood to use but we took it out of the box and it doesn't really match the stove and it clashes with the brass light pendants.  I was thinking of painting it black, however, there really is not anything in the kitchen that will be black. I know it's classic and it goes with everything but not sure if having the hood black will stick out like a sore thumb.  I was thinking painting the back door black and tying the black into the dining room might be a good plan.  Here are a couple mood boards of the plans.
